Being a makeup marketing manager can be a difficult career despite of what many people may think. Makeup marketing managers have to constantly come up with unique, pragmatic marketing ideas that could distinguish the brand from other makeup brands that sell similar products. The process of developing a new collection could take months: coming up with colors, formulas, names, designs, and many more.
Recently, I saw on Temptalia.com, a makeup blog that I follow, information about a new collection that was launched from the brand, MAC. The article said that it the new collection comprised of limited edition products from previous MAC collections. MAC had held a Facebook poll earlier in the year to choose three lipsticks, three eyeshadows, and three lipglasses to bring back for a limited time. I thought that this was a very tactful and intelligent marketing technique as it creates an opportunity for the consumers to participate in the making of the collection by inputting their opinions on which discontinued product should be brought back. I’m definitely looking forward for this collection to be released in Korea (launch date: 10/8/12) for many of the lipsticks shades that were picked are beautiful and the fact that these were chosen as the top picks from the various discontinued shades is certainly very intriguing.
Marketing makeup is something that truly interests me and something I believe I am passionate about. Although it could be a challenge at times, I would love to be a makeup marketing manager who can produce collections that makeup fans would go head over heals for and one who can interact with consumers to create products that consumers would be truly pleased with.
